Carjacking is an especially frightening crime, as it usually involves a direct confrontation with a car thief. Carjacking usually occurs when criminals need to flee the scene of other crimes, as part of a gang initiation, or because some cars are easier to steal when the owner is there with the keys.
Stealing a car by force has captured headlines across the country. Statistically your chances of being a carjacking victim are very slim and prevention can reduce the risk even further. Carjacking can be an especially frightening crime as it usually involves a direct confrontation with a car thief. It also usually occurs when criminals need to flee the scene of other crimes, as part of a gang initiation, or because some cars are easier to steal when the owner is there with the keys.
Why Is Carjacking A Problem?
No one knows for certain, but some explanations include:
• It’s a crime of opportunity – a thief searching for the most vulnerable prey. Sometimes it’s the first step to another crime.
• For some young people, carjacking may be a rite of passage, a status symbol, or just a thrill.
• Cars, especially luxury ones, provide quick cash for drug users and other criminals.
• Sophisticated alarms and improved locking devices make it hard for thieves to seal unoccupied cars.
• It’s easy to buy, steal, or barter for guns in this country. And a pointed gun makes a more powerful threat.
• More teens and adults commit crimes of violence than ever before.
• Intense media interest may have created “copycat” carjackers.
It Can Happen Anywhere And To Anyone
• Though carjackings can occur anytime, a sizeable share appear to take place during the late night hours.
• Carjacking isn’t just a problem in large cities – it happens in suburbs, small towns, and rural areas.
• Carjackers look for opportunity. They don’t choose victims by sex, race, or age. Read the rest of this entry »

Women At Risk - In Home Sales Representatives (Part I)
If you are an in-home sales consultant, such as an alarm security consultant or a real estate professional, what are your
companies’ policies on what you should and should not do if you are attacked by a prospective client when you are in their home during an appointment? Has your Human Resource personnel given you specifics on what you can do to protect yourself if you are attacked or assaulted?
Both real estate agents and alarm security consultants have a much higher "risk" to their personal safety than most sales positions due to the very nature of meeting with complete strangers in their home. The risk is even greater when you are meeting one-on-one with a male prospect with no background information. At least when it is a referral or you quasi-know the prospect, the odds are he will not be a perpetrator looking to do you harm in a confined or concealed location.
The personal security and safety of each of us should be a high priority, especially in this day of high crime against women. Women should develop a Personal Safety Plan for both work and home. This plan should spell out the steps you are going to take to make yourself more aware of your surroundings and the people you deal with; educate you on self-defense strategies and techniques; learn how to protect yourself; and what personal protection options you can take as a secondary level of defense. If attacked or assaulted, this plan will help guide you to instantly respond and “KNOW” what to do without having to “THINK” about what to do to protect yourself.
Companies that employ women (and men) in high risk positions should definitely consider providing personal security and safety awareness training for their employees.
Here are concerns that in-home sales representatives have to contend with. If you are in a high risk position such as an in-home sales consultant or someone who meets clients in their home, make sure you are prepared and know what to do if suddenly attacked or assaulted.

Risky Business – Meeting Prospects (Complete Strangers) In Their Home!
1. You meet with complete strangers in their home to educate and consult with them on home security protection, financial advice, real estate advice, or whatever. Many times realtors or alarm consultants have to meet prospects at a new home construction site or in a vacant home in a remote location with no other homes nearby. Be aware of this type of situation and always try to checkout the prospect beforehand. Let others know where you will be and that you will check-in once the appointment is finished.
2. You work late night appointments in some “not-so-nice” neighborhoods. Not only do you have to be concerned with meeting a prospect in these areas, but going to and from your car late at night can be just as risky. Carry a personal alarm with a light connected and make sure the alarm is a high decibel alarm so that you can attract attention if you are confronted or attacked. You may also want to consider carrying a personal protection device like pepper spray, mace spray, Taser C2 or even a stun gun baton with a light. These are non-lethal devices and can disable an attacker long enough for you to get away to safety. Read the rest of this entry »
Personal Security & Safety Awareness Seminars Empower Women
Personal Security Solutions, Inc. offers seminars and workshops that educate women and men about personal security and safety, home security, and self-defense awareness issues. With crime on the rise and attacks against women increasing, knowing what to do and how to protect and defend yourself is vitally important.
Many companies are beginning to offer this type of training to their employees as a company benefit, the same way they offer 401K’s, dental plans, vacations, etc. What companies have found is by providing this training to their employees (especially women), there seems to be a heightened sense of gratitude towards the company and a sense of empowerment that women now feel they are in charge of their personal security and know what options are available to protect and defend themselves.
Check with your company to see if they provide this type of training. Listed below is an outline of the Personal Security & Safety Awareness Seminar that Personal Security Solutions offers. Pass it on to your companies’ Human Resource group if they do not currently offer this type of program.

Remember, Stay Aware…Stay Alert…Stay Alive!!
Are You Prepared In Case Of A Terrorist Attack?
Courtesy Of America’s Most Wanted - Safety Center
Have you become complacent about your security? That means the security of the world in which you live in…the security of your home and family, and your personal security? With everything that goes on in our lives today, it can become very easy to forget about our overall personal security and the safety of our family, our homes, and ourselves.
Among the common sense things to have in your Personal Safety Plan, be sure to also include being prepared in case of a terrorist attack. Remember, it’s not a matter of IF, it’s a matter of WHEN. Be prepared for when.
A terrorist attack could happen at any time, and could take many forms: a bomb threat or bombing, a hijacking, or cyber attack are all possible scenarios. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) warns that typical targets for terrorist acts are government facilities, international airports, major cities and landmarks, to name a few. Will you know what to do if an attack happens near you? During a terrorist attack you will need to rely on first responders for direction, but you can also prepare just as you would for other emergencies. Here are a few tips from FEMA to help you and your family be ready.
- Try to always be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right you should move or leave the area and get to a safe place.
- When you travel, be aware of suspicious behavior. Never take packages from strangers and never leave your luggage unattended.
- Learn where emergency exits are located, and plan an emergency exit route in buildings you frequent.
- Report suspicious packages or behavior to police or security officers.
If you do happen to receive a suspicious package at work or at home, approach it with caution. According to FEMA and US Postal Inspectors, there are several characteristics which should call your attention:
- An unexpected package, from someone unfamiliar or no return address.
- Excessive postage or packing material, such as masking tape or string.
- Have protruding wires, strange odors or stains.
- Are an unusual weight for their size, or are oddly shaped.
- Have misspellings of common words, incorrect titles or titles without a name.
If you are at work, report the package to building security or to your supervisor, who should immediately notify authorities. If you are at home, report the package to the local police.
Check out the FEMA site for more advice on how to prepare in case of a terrorist emergency, or for other general emergency and disaster preparation information
Never Forget 9/11 And How Important Security Is
Let’s keep the 9/11 victims, their families and friends, and all the heros of that day, and those who continue to fight to keep our country safe in our prayers today. We can see how important our countries’ security is, our personal security, and the security of our family.
Not only do we need to be concerned about terrorists who come into our country, but we have to be vigilant and more aware of the "everyday" terrorist…the predator, the perpetrator, the attacker who preys upon sometimes more helpless citizens.
Always be aware and alert to your security, whether at home, at work, traveling for business or pleasure, or wherever you are.
Again, let’s take a few moments of silence for those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Empower and Protect Yourself With The Right Self-Defense Tools
Personal Security Solutions has a personal protection/self-defense product store that offers exceptional, quality products like Taser C2’s, Advanced M-18 Tasers, a variety of pepper and mace sprays, personal alarms, and stun guns designed to help protect and defend you in an attack or assault situation. These non-lethal devices can disable an attacker giving you time to quickly get away to safety and contact the police.
One of the newest stun guns is a mini that delivers the maximum bite.
This stun device is easily concealable and virtually undetectable in the hand of a woman or man. The Runt Stun Gun is available from 350,000 up to 950,000 volts!
Stun Guns are electrical self-defense weapons that use high voltage to stop an attacker. Touching a person with the prongs of the stun gun quickly immobilizes the attacker. However, because stun guns have very low amperage, no serious or permanent injury is inflicted.
If you are in a life-threatening situation of being attacked or assaulted, this self-defense device may allow you to disable an attacker and get away to safety. Remember when you use a stun gun you are right up close and personal with the attacker. Be sure you are trained and know how to use this non-lethal device. Check local ordinances on the legality in your city/state. (See list).
The new cell phone stun gun comes in either deep blue or cherry red and has a sleek design. It looks like many other cell phones on the market, yet this one packs a major punch - 800,000 volts worth!

o Holster included with free batteries

Personal Security 911 - Empowered Women Take Charge
Empowered Women Take Charge Of Their Protection
Where can we go to find quality information about how to stay safe and protect ourselves from everyday crime? Our local newspapers don’t provide much in the way of personal protection and safety information for women…they only report the crimes that have been committed against women.
When you visit Personal Security 911 , the objective will be to provide valuable information on women’s self-defense techniques, personal safety awareness tactics, ways to secure and protect your home, and information on the latest non-lethal personal protection devices. We want you to be informed and able survive a criminal attack if it should happen to you.
Personal Security 911 will give you what the major media won’t - the "how to’s", the knowledge, and ways you can learn to fight back against a criminal assault or attack. We all need to be more observant and aware of who is around us and what is happening around us 24/7. Instead of the criminal catching the victim off-guard in an attack, why not be one step ahead and YOU provide the element of surprise if attacked. Read the rest of this entry »
